Artist’s Statement
I’m a contemporary painter who deeply respects and loves the positive energy that exists in the world around us. My work brings it forward with the intention to soothe, transport, refresh, even empower.
My process relies on discovering, then amplifying the energy I see. A flicker of red might streak across the leaves of a tree. The suspense-filled tension of negative space between objects might fuel a cityscape, coastal scene, the portrait of a leaf that’s fallen to the ground or a chair in the sunlight. The rich patina of color one finds on decayed walls, bricks, concrete and metal might be presented in a composition of converging lines, darting to a strong set of vanishing points.
When my work provides a tinge of life’s motion and goodness to the casual viewer, or is deemed a worthy accomplishment to the trained eye of fellow artists, judges and curators, it is knowing I’ve given something of value that puts wind in my sails.
